Since 2015, the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) rule has mapped the path to desegregation under the Fair Housing Act of 1968. AFFH required that local governments work intentionally towards desegregation in their communities to receive federal funding. The AFFH rule has driven new investment into poor communities and begun reversing the harms of redlining and decades of systematic discrimination. Now, it’s under attack. How communities respond to these attacks will define their access to housing for decades to come.
